National Rail Stations: Whittlesea - Marden

Station 1,000: Whittlesea - Marden Greater Anglia trips are some of my favourite to do, and I was excited to do this one as it would be a throwback to my original railway trip to visit a new station that just so happened to be on the Greater Anglia network. My original intention was to catch a train to Ely, to run down the line towards Peterborough, jumping off the penultimate stop at Whittlesea, to return back to Ely. However, I realised it will be a lot easier and quicker to get a train to Peterborough first, and then just get one train through Whittlesea to Ely. This was my first time catching a Greater Anglia train from Peterborough, and luckily, I didn't witness 'The Peterborough Curse', where my train got significantly delayed getting up there, as it always seemed like last year, I was, and even recently on a trip to my nan's, my train arrived about 2 hours late at Peterborough, for the third time in a row. It seems that despite Whittlesea Station being spelt with...

National Rail Stations: Skegness - Alton

The White Cliffs: Skegness - Alton Recently, I went on a family trip to Cleethorpes for a few nights, and soon after, I went to stay with my uncle's for a few nights in Lincolnshire. Instead of going to Boston Station, I went to Spalding, my nan's local station instead, as it's considerably cheaper to go to, and my uncle would pick me up from there in his car. However, just like my previous trip to Peterborough, my LNER train was considerably delayed, being stuck at the platforms of Huntingdon for a long time, so I missed my Spalding train, and the one behind, and the next one wasn't for several hours again, but a replacement bus showed up eventually. I always have a fun time when staying at my uncle's as Boston is a nice little town, Goodbarns Yard pub genuinely does the best food I've ever eaten, we found this woodland that I believe is on an old RAF site, going on an outdoor inflatable water park, which was so much fun, and went down to Skegness too. I had be...

National Rail Stations: Taunton - Bottesford

London Underground, Bedfordshire Overground: Taunton - Bottesford After my first big Great Western Railway adventure to Bristol and Severn Beach, it was only the very next day that I was out on another. Back out of Paddington again, on a slightly quieter train than yesterday's, straight through Bath Spa and Bristol Temple Meads again, which felt strange, before my first new stop of the day at Taunton. I actually stayed on the train to Exeter St David's, where I changed for a rather bizarre branch line. That's because this line only runs on Summer Sundays, and rather infrequently as such, running to a place called Okehampton, with a tiny station in between with the strange name of Sampford Courtenay. Okehampton is the place to come for a heritage railway line, and provides the perfect place to come in on a GWR service and change directly for a much older train. The fact it calls at a heritage railway line station means that there's a lot of brilliant railway related thin...
